Spotify and the A.I. question
I love Spotify, but find it a fucking nightmare at times too. My reasons are plenty and few at the same time. There is music on there that I love and have on vinyl, and as I cannot be arsed setting up my extremely expensive music system that cost me £1,499 and is amazing, but hitting play on my iMac is easier, and I am not tempted to play at full blast (my external iMac speakers are loud anyway) as it will shake my Victorian house to the ground. However, I keep finding bands that I really like, then switch screens to Amazon and order the CD as I feed I “need” them, but I can just put them in my playlist and press play on Spotify.
The other thing I question is their “Discover Weekly” section that gives the impression that their AI works and knows what you are into, so today I thought I would see what was in there. Imagine my disappointment that they think I would like “Sinne missa aamu sarastaa” by Mokoma, and then the next track was something by Guy Garvey, I could have thrown my iMac out the window in all honesty. I cannot abhor Guy Bloody Garvey. I love other Manchester music, but he makes me want to pull out my own ear drums and feed them to the dogs.
Other suggestions on this week’s “discover” were really good, not that they were a discovery as I know their music and play it all the time. The likes of System of a Down, Imelda May, Type O Negative, and Godsmack to name but a few were right up/down my alleyway and get thumbs up.
Other things that annoy the tits off me is that you can have your mobile save the music for “offline” play, but, I find that you have to bugger about with the sync option, the phone has to be on the same network and Spotify open to work. The adverts seem to be overkill at times, and other times not heard for hours.
Fingers crossed that their “Discover Weekly” starts taking a little notice of what I actually listen to and give me something worthy of the word “Discover”
