Boking Day

So it is here, the day of madness in the sales, people scrambling to get a bargain, but not us. We never do the sales, and in all honesty find the whole thing, like so-called black Friday a waste of time and money. Buying rubbish that we do not want or need. Although I did buy a book from Amazon as I have £100 of vouchers, so that was £4.99 and £2.99 for the Audio side of the book. What book? I hear you ask. It is “Blame it on Bianca Del Rio”. I find her very funny and decided why not go mad and get it.

Apart from walking the dogs twice and driving into town to see the shoppers and look on with righteous condemnation, it was a bit of a lazy day. Tomorrow we are going to the vets for monthly weighing and worming tablets for the dogs, and Friday off to my parents for a few hours.

I have many books on the go, but this evening after a lovely dinner of roast beef, roast potatoes, veg and gravy, oh, and more trifle, I have started “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” by Heather Morris. I did start the ebook from the library but never got past the first chapter, then the copy self-deleted and I could not renew to carry on. Glad I have the book and looking forward to getting into it properly.

Boxing Day isn’t really a thing here in the States, so to us it’s “Just Another Wednesday” 😂. I don’t know what I’d do with $100 in Amazon vouchers…I get my ebooks through Apple Books instead of Kindle…I’d probably spend it on something unique like a ukulele (and extra sets of good strings). I’ve heard quite a bit about “The Tattooist of Auschwitz”, but haven’t decided if I would want it on my “Want to Read” list. I don’t read novels extremely quickly, which is why I haven’t been quick to renew my library card (and it’s been *years* since I’ve done so), although the appeal of being able to check out ebooks is tempting. I prefer to read at my own pace, especially given how much being a caregiver for my mom has affected my sleeping habits. I might have a little more reading time to fit in today, I seem to have gotten my extra sleep this morning (slept in a bit after dad got home, and then I dozed off in the living room chair for about another hour once I got up).

I didn’t watch Bianca’s season, but I’ve gotten into watching RuPaul’s Drag Race (and Drag Race All-Stars) recently, and I just love how hilarious and entertaining drag queens can be. I remember watching RuPaul’s talk show in the ‘90s (and RuPaul was *everywhere* in pop culture, even back then, I remember her turn as Mrs. Cummings in “The Brady Bunch Movie”, the guidance counselor helping out Jan); I was heartbroken as a kid to find out RuPaul wasn’t actually a woman, but I still have so much appreciation for RuPaul, both in and out of drag, and was really a revolutionary of bringing the art of drag into mainstream pop culture.

I remember when Ru first started 30 years ago, and I always loved her fun attitude and how much of a glamazon she is. We only started watching Drag Race the last 6 months, having never seen it before we had Netflix.

I discovered Bianca when M was away in Ireland and was flicking through Netflix and I saw the film Hurricane Bianca, and decided to watch it, and loved her.
