Okay, I may have lost my mind or possessed by the devil, not sure which, but it is a close call. “Why Mr K?” I hear you say, “why?” I felt the need/urge to buy another Ninja product, not because I need it, as I have a machine that pressure cooks, I have a machine that will dehydrate, I also have a Crockpot, I have a grill, three ovens, a rotary fryer, a….. you get the picture, I have it all, in separate machines, and I love the all, not like my dogs of my knitting supplies, but I love them. However, I am in love with the look and verticality of the Ninja products (no I am not getting paid by them, or have any freebees from them, but I would not say no). They look sexy and now that I am renovating the kitchen they look super cool and in turn make the kitchen (still not finished) look very good.
So, I guess I better tell what the latest toy I have bought. Drum roll! It is a Ninja 9-in-1 6 litre multi-cooker. I was toying with getting the 7.5 litre one and thought to myself, I don’t need one that big, and now I have the 6 litre, I could have gone for the 7.5 after all. But hey, we will make it work.
As I got home later than normal due to going to the DIY store on the way home, then the supermarket I decided just to make burgers and beer battered chunky chips for dinner (fries to the USA). In the new 9-in-1 I did the chips which came out fabulous and the air grill I did the burgers. Everything was fabulous and perfectly cooked and in half the time it would have taken in the oven and grill.
Above my collection on the newly done kitchen cabinets, more about the refurbishment at a later date when I have finished it all.
I have gone a little mad the last week with new kitchen toys. On Saturday I bought a Ninja Foodi Max Health Grill and then on Sunday bought a Ninja Foodi Hot & Cold Blender & Soup Maker.
I know! Do I need these things in my life? Probably not, but at the same time, yes I do, and now I have played with them, yes I do need them and so does everyone else. These machines are amazing, and it is very seldom I would describe a machine as amazing, but I have to say it again, they are amazing.
I am now considering replacing my Pressure King Pro with a Ninja Foodi Max 9-in-1 Pressure Cooker. I know, do I need to do this? Probably not! Will I? Probably will!
So far I have cooked burgers, sausages and fries in the Health grill, as I had them in the fridge, but WOW, they were cooked in about 5 minutes, which was quite amazing and nice and brown too. With the blender I have made raspberry and coconut smoothie, curried cauliflower soup and peanut butter hot chocolate. Not a great deal of things, but I have only had them a couple of days.
If anyone was considering buying these things, then I say go for it. Kitchen toys are great fun, and these are worth every penny.
After lots of thought and having the three watches in my basket for a few weeks now, I finally went for the Apple Watch 4. I was tempted to go for the Ionos, but the ECG feature was the pulling point. I got it this morning and so far so good. I have tried the ECG and it is very good, showing my heart working well. When my heart next plays up I can record it for my GP which will help with controlling my condition.
One of the features I did not know was there until it alerted me was a breathing app. My watch vibrated, I looked and it told me to take a minute to sit and breath and instructed me when to breath in and when out, this is supposed to help relax and clear your lungs of stale air. I am looking forward to using the other apps and features on it, and am happy to say I love it.
From time to time I feel the need to have a clearout, this also includes my beloved iMac. Today was a bit of a slow day, and that slowness was reflected in my computer. It felt sluggish, and every time I went to Amazon the screen would lock up and I would have to switch off via the power and start up again. I thought it may be chrome screwing things up, therefore uninstalled it, and installed a fresh download. However, this was not the solution. Chrome and Safari had also been partial loading sites, especially WordPress, and what was on screen seemed to be missing frames and general formatting.
Enough was enough. I have 5 drives attached to my iMac, music, current photography, archive photography, expansion (documentation etc) and of course, the time machine. With all these drives and an automated back up all I needed to do was a restart with a few buttons pressed and the process of formatting and reinstallation would begin.
Needless to say, I am back up and running, and my machine is running at top speed now. Just an hour out of my time, I say an hour, but the machine did all the work, all I had to do was put in my passwords, and boom! it was done.
I am at a loss as to what the problem was as I use a program to clear memory, check for malware and viruses, and boost the running. Apart from tracker cookies, nothing was ever found. My iMac is early 2009, so maybe it’s an age thing?
Today our new high-speed router arrived. Knowing how many items I have attached to our old router I was rolling my eyes at the thought of having to add all 27 devices, however, I had read an article last night regarding routers, and that changing the SSID and the password on the new router to the old details it will auto connect to all the existing devices. With this new knowledge, I plugged it in, logged in, changed what was required, and hey presto, we were working. I then decided to run a speed test, and what do you know, we have the high-speed connection already, even though it was not to be live for 10 days (next Wednesday), the words WOO HOO! came to mind.
I have been testing it all day, not the speed test as featured above, but uploading photos to Pixabay, and syncing my Apple drive, and the ISP said that the speed will increase for the first week or so till it reaches 80Mbps. Streaming is now a doddle and downloading films from Sky takes seconds now.
M has a laptop his Dad bought him about 5 years ago, however, the last week it has been playing up, and at the weekend it decided that it would do a so called update/repair, and had been stuck on 4% for 2 days solid. Yesterday I decided to surprise him with a new high speed one with lots of memory and a massive hard drive. Needless to say, he was a little surprised when I told him to close his eyes and put his hands out and placed it in them.
I bought him a new touchscreen all in one PC last year which he loves, but due to his disabilities, the laptop is easier for him to use on bad days. He has spinal disabilities among a host of other things that cause him a loss in mobility, add that to brain function problems and pain 24/7, he has quite a struggle on his hands, so I thought this new machine would make it easier for him.
Last night he started the setup procedure, which took so many painful hours waiting for it to finish its download/set up to the latest version of Windows 10, but I guess that is a windows thing. I will never understand why Microsoft machines take forever to get to the point of being able to use, especially when they are straight out of the box (this was a 2017 brand new machine). I only use Apple, so have never had this problem. He spent some of today adding other software that he uses, along with antivirus, office etc. He seems really happy with the new laptop, result!
My next job is to tackle his old laptop, get into it and rescue all the things he has on it. I don’t think there will be too much to rescue as he backs up his machines and uses Dropbox too, so fingers crossed it will not be too much of a job, that is once I get past this 4% rubbish as I know that Windows 10 does not have a safe mode, oh the joy of it all.
We upgraded our broadband about a year ago from 12mbps to 40mbpb fibre. After adding so much onto our system lately in the form of Amazon Dots, Hue lighting, Echos, Ring and much much more I thought it was time to increase the speed of the system as there was an offer with our ISP, double our speed for an extra £5 a month, so it seemed silly not to go for it, after all, we stream music, movies and tv shows all the time, so why not a little faster.
I also thought that this may also help with the speed of my old iMac, which as you know, I want to upgrade. A new hub has been ordered, so will be with me in the next few days, and the service will be live 2nd August. Only 10 days, but I will be chomping at the bit till it starts. I am quite impatient when it comes to getting things, I guess that is why we have an Amazon Prime account. Fingers crossed all our systems will speed up, especially when we have 26 wireless items attached. Is 26 a little too much?
I keep looking at getting a new iMac. I a 24-inch Early 2009 iMac, it has done me well, and never let me down, but it is getting slow in its old age, and I can only use El Capitan, as my iMac cannot update to Sierra due to the requirements of the new OS. If I am honest, I am still happy with my current iMac, it does the job, just its 8 years old, and I am yearning for a new swanky machine. Last year I bought myself a new MacBook Pro along with a new iPhone 6S Plus, which in all truths cost a bloody fortune as I decided to go for the upper end of the specifications rather than an entry level machine.
Looking at the new iMac’s (2017) editions they are spec rich, and I would probably have the new one for 8 to 10 years, but the expense really does kill me, not in the fact of affording it, that’s not the problem, it is justifying the expense. As I say, my 2009 iMac is great, in fact, I am using it at the moment to write this whilst streaming Corey Taylors latest Beats 1 show (A series of bleeps) on Apple Music. M keeps taunting me with “So when are you going to stop pretending you have not already decided?”. But in all honesty, I have not decided to buy one, I would love one, and maybe last year, I may have gone mad if they new iMac was out and bought it then, but it wasn’t and I really struggled with the purchase of the iPhone at the same time, so maybe I may not have. All in all, I want one but the justification really is stopping me. I think then should I go for a Mini iMac, which is cool, but then I have to get a monitor for it, which is not a problem as I have seen some very sexy ones, but in the end, I wonder if I am sacrificing quality for the cost.
